Beginners guide to buying a new bike 2013

beginners guide to buying a bike
So this year (2013) I have decided that part of my fitness plan is going to include cycling! Now to be honest I have not been on a bike for about 15 years and the last bike I owned was a BMX.
(It was red with stunt nuts)
So to call myself a cycling novice is probably an understatement.. However I am really keen to learn more about cycling for fitness and since we have had a few guest blogs on the topic of bikes I thought I would provide a idiots beginners guide to buying a new bike.
Now where do you start when looking to buy a bike? Well I did the usual Google searches and realised there are now lots of different types of bikes! There are Road bikes, Mountain bikes, City bikes, Downhill bikes, Freeride bikes and something called a Hybrid bike…. in fact according to Wikipedia there are approx 31 different types of bike categorised by their function not to mention the different frames types!!
So completely confused I decided to speak with the guys from Evans Cycles who I got chatting with via Twitter and some of my friends on Facebook.
I was very fortunate to be able to ask lots of newbie questions and hopefully here is a brief breakdown on the main types of bikes available to buy
